The numbers game...

Ahh well the time is approaching... summer is ending and it will soon be time to head back to the land of Pullman and vet school.  I have started really figuring out which rabbits will be coming back with me as my numbers usually go up a bit in the summers.

Usually, I will keep 10-12 mini lops.... this year I have made my cuts and still have 15....

1) Matty SSB
2) Riplee SJB
3) Flash SJB
4) Coley SJB
5) Twitch BSB
6) Hydro BJB
7) Envy SSD
8) Cupid SSD
9) Maryn SJD
10) Parker SJD
11) Solstice BSD
12) Bella BSD
13) Flare BJD
14) Lyric BJD
15) Tricia BJD

I look at this list and its easy to say... well cut a SJB, a SJD, and a BJD and that would get me to 12.  However, I really like all the juniors.... I'm not sure what I am going to do at this point.  Even if I do make some tough choices, I would want them sold to show homes and I don't know if that would be possible with a month to go until I leave.  I only have 18 holes in Pullman and I am bringing back three Martens as well.  This would make all my cages full, which is awful! I also want to do two more litters soon... but if all my cages are full where does that leave me.. what if I get a bunch more keepers???  Ahh! The troubles of keeping a small rabbitry!

If you are looking for a super promising junior lop and will be actively showing.. let me know and I may part with one of my convention babies!

Agility Results! and Upcoming Events

Wednesday July 1st
NADAC weavers trial

Ella took 1st of 13 in novice weavers!  I was shocked!  All the weave training I have been doing to paying off.  We still have work to do, but we have made a lot of progress.  Zark did pretty well too, but he got off courses into tunnels... he sure loves tunnels...

Friday July 3rd
UKC agility trial

Ella won 1st place with a perfect 200 score.  She earned her UAG1 title!  We were only a couple seconds slower than the high in trial winner... I wish I would have tried to go faster!  I held her contacts longer and wasn't really going for speed.  Oh well! But I am disappointed, it would have been so cool.

We are done with agility until the end of the month.  On the 25th we are doing a demo at the GO DOGS GO festival in Kirkland.  On the 26th we will be competing at the RAT NADAC trial in Kent.  I hope to get Ellas Touch n go title there.  Then in August we will finish up the summer with a weekend in Auburn at the ZAP NADAC trial.  Then... back to school :(

Next weekend is the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) conference in Seattle, so I will be learn learn learning!

July 18th is the Monroe rabbit show - pretty excited for this!  My senior bucks are getting there condition and coats back and should be competitive.  I also am looking forward to showing my new junior doe Flare, who is gorgeous!  I would actually pick her over my Sr bucks... I haven't decided on if I will enter Solstice or not as I want to get Bella's 3rd leg... I doubt Bella could beat Solstice...

Entering-
*Matty SSB
*Jasper SSB (FOR SALE)
*Cupid SSD (my REW brood doe going for that 3rd leg!)
*Twitch BSB (can he get that 10th leg??_
*Excalibur BJB (nice upcoming buck! I think he will be for sale soon though, because he isnt as good as twitch and I dont need two broken bucks out of Kristie)
*Solstice? BSD
*Bella BSD
*Flare!!! (Super Star Junior!)

I need to talk to Sarah, but I think we will just enter the two black silver martens.  There isnt competition for the blues right now, so Flame will probably stay home.  We will have junior blues for sale at monroe if anyone is interested.

WA Convention - Day 2!

I had a great time at convention!!  I always look forward to this weekend every year.  I love getting to meet up with everyone and spend most the weekend catching up!  I will probably not get to go to state next year, it will depend what rotation I am on at the hospital or if I get the week off.  I may try to get ARBA convention week off, that would be awesome to go to again!

My mini lops took 2nds, 3rds, and a 4th on Sunday.  The Martens took BOB  again.  The Silver Marten we wanted to win did not though, so we didn't have a shot at winning BIS.

I went to state this year with 20 mini lops and came home with 5!  Wow!  I actually was pretty sad sending all my bunnies to their new homes.  I hate when I have to sell seniors.  I came home to a less crowded barn and was able to separate all 10 mini lop babies into groups of two in individual cages.  I also weaned the silver martens and placed them into two larger cages.  I was able to fill up most my holes anyway!

I looked over the two juniors from my last litter and am very very happy!  Flare is just beautiful! Which made me feel better about Kristie leaving this last weekend.  She has such amazing type and a really strong head coming in.  Excalibur is also looking good, he isn't as balanced as Flare and is a touch weak in the loin.  I need to get some new pictures.  There condition and coats are to die for.  I can't wait to show them in Monroe in a few weeks.

Agility - Ella and Zark are competing in two rounds of weavers on Wednesday night.  Ella is competing in UKC agility this Friday.

I am really enjoying my job this summer.  I am continuing to learn and get so much valuable experience.  I am scrubbed into surgery and assisting almost every day.  I also get to close on most of those surgeries.  My suturing skills are really coming along.  I really enjoy surgery!  I told myself I would study other subjects this summer, but really have not been doing it... So that is going to be my goal for the rest of the summer.  My medicine courses start next year, so the more I cement into my memory now the better I will be able to apply it!

New Titles

Tonight was the Mega Dogs Mini Trial - 2 tunneler runs

*Ella qualified in the first round of open with a 5th place (I think there were 10 or so in her class)
Her run went pretty well, I need to watch the video to see why we had a couple bobbles, but it was pretty smooth. Ella's second run was a mess.. She was really hyped up due to the dog before us which was crazy fast and loud and when she made a mistake I resorted to my old handling methods... yuk! She earned her TN-O title!!

*Zark was a super boy and qualified in both rounds of novice. He took 2nd in the first round and I didnt stay to find out his place in the second round. He earned his TN-N title!! He did really well! The first round I feel I handled well other than one miscue which slowed him down. THe second round wasn't as good, I had two places where I didn't handle well and it really slowed us down.. but Zark is much more forgiving than Ella and we quickly rebounded and qualified anyway :)

Bunny News!!
Washington State Convention is this coming weekend!!! My bunnies are not in prime condition, but they have finished their molts and should be competitive at least. I am entering the following:

Matty SSB
Jasper SJB
Kristie SSD
Twitch BSB
Solstice BSD
Bella BJD

Kristie is headed to Oregon for Lana and Impulse is going to Coley and Tricia Hill- Im really going to miss this gorgeous chestnut does! Danger will hopefully be making his way to Nathan if transport can be found, otherwise he will stick around until we find a way. Lyra is going to her new home as well, I just dont think its possible to get her third leg. I should be able to get my all GC pedigree, just will take me about a year more to do it! A few baby juniors are headed to their new homes as well. It will be nice to get back down in numbers as feed costs are killing me!

Summer Happenings

This last weekend I went camping at Long Beach.  It was a lot of fun!  I took Zark with me and he loved the ocean, but most of all he loved his new 5 year old playmate.  They were together the whole weekend :)

Ella and I have been working very hard training for agility.  We have gone back and are working on more foundation work.  I am starting to see a lot of progress.  I am now working with Michael Bruce of Every-buddy's Agility Fun.  He is a fantastic trainer and teacher and has renewed my hope that Ella and I can become a better team.

We went to a mini trial last Wednesday of two touch n go runs.  In the first run, Ella and I were able to get all three discriminations.  She had great contacts.  We were eliminated, as she jumped up at me once when there were a few hoops in a row. I wasn't putting enough pressure on her and thats when she spins in.  I don't feel it should have been an elimination though, as she didn't nip at me.  The second run was actually pretty good.  Ella drove ahead and did hoops without attitude and we had good contacts...all until I forgot the end of the course and ruined it!

The baby bunnies are looking great.  I weaned them all yesterday.  The only problem is that the quality is so high I am having a hard time choosing.  I really should only keep 4 or 5, but I may end up keeping more and put Bella up for sale to make room.
